Our story
A place for women who have nowhere else to go.
Yuvak Vikas Kendra was established in 1996 and has worked in and around Uthamapalayam for nearly three decades. Over time, the organisation's focus has come to rest on a particularly urgent need: older women without family support or a safe place to live.
Today we run two homes. Y.V.K 50, in Thomas Colony, supports 50 older women. Shastha Nilayam, at Suriyanarayana Puram in Kalimettu Patti, supports 25. Both are supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment through the AVYAY-IPSrC programme.
The homes provide shelter, food, personal care and medical support. But our aim is also intangible: to give each woman the sense that she is known, respected and part of a community. It is slow, daily work — and it is what we are here to do.

Our vision
A society in which no older woman is left without a home, a caregiver or a community to belong to.
What guides us
Values we try to practise, not just publish.
These principles shape how we care for people, spend money and work with families and partners.
Dignity
Each resident is an individual with a history, preferences and the right to respect.
01Safety
A secure, well-run home with attentive staff and reliable care.
02Companionship
Shared life, celebration and friendship are part of good care.
03Steadiness
We remain present for the long term, not only for the easy days.
04Milestones
A story told in years.
Not everything that matters can be measured. But these moments mark the road that brought us here.
